About the Scholarship
The McKayla Hanson Memorial Scholarship is now available to first and second year students who are in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Program at Eastern Michigan University.
Background/History of scholarship/fund
At the age of 7, McKayla was placed in a foster care home and was diagnosed with a rare cancer, given months to live. She underwent 3 amputations, which saved her life. She achieved in many things, including swim team, dive team, high jumper, champion rock climber, national champion hand cyclist, national champion triathlete and contender for the Paralympic Triathlon team. Recently, she received her Master's degree from Eastern Michigan University in prosthetic and orthotics. She was just beginning her career helping amputees to regain their independence and spirit before she passed away. This scholarship is in recognition of her and her life's work.

In order to be considered for the scholarship, a student must:

Be a first or second year student in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Program at Eastern Michigan University.

Submit an essay describing personal happiness, commitment to self-improvement and positive impact on others.
Application forms must be received no later than September 12, 2022 for consideration for a scholarship. Submit your essay to info@itriformac.org. Awards will be made on October 2nd, 2022 following the triathlon awards.
